Retail

The Bearmans department store on Leytonstone High Road closed in 1982 1.  The incompetent (at that time) Co-operative store group had taken over from the original family some years earlier.

Leyton and Leytonstone did not have a bookshop.  The area tended not to be one in which to site stores catering for those benefiting from Britain’s increasing prosperity.
