Next (right) Previous (left) Hampton Court vista

Above is a view of an avenue stretching away from Hampton Court Palace, a reflection of the planting made in the reign of William and Mary at the end of the 17th century.

A map made by John Roque 1741-45 when Leyton Grange was the home of Sir John Strange shows curving paths within wooded areas, reflecting a growing preference for half-natural landscape.  Some straight avenues remain.
