Charlie Middleton lived in Kingston Road off Crownfield Road from 1931 to 1957, and in Acacia Road near Harrow Green to 1965. He worked out of the great Stratford railway depot from just after the Second World War through nationalisation, rationalisation and into neglect. His father had the same name and was also a fireman and engine driver. Charlie Middleton has written an excellent short book about his time on the railways : ‘Stratford, a Locoman Remembers’ ISBN 0 95064735 7.
